The Department of Iranian Philology was established in 1958, simultaneously with the founding of the faculty. Its first head was Professor Hilol Karimov, whose contributions to the establishment and development of the department, as well as the training of local specialists, were significant. Alongside Professor Karimov, Iranian-born instructors Akbar Zare, Yusuf Hasanli, and Durroj also played a key role in strengthening and developing the Persian section. They were instrumental in training specialists in the Persian language and Iranian literature, as well as qualified translators and experts for various economic, political, scientific, and cultural sectors of the country.
It is worth noting that most current instructors of the Department of Iranian Philology consider these outstanding individuals their true mentors and remember them with great respect and warmth.
In 1982, Professor Hilol Karimov passed the leadership of the department to his student and colleague, Associate Professor Faizali Najmonov, who worked effectively in this position until 1992. The department was later led by instructors Firuza Amonova and Usmon Sulaimoni. From October 1, 2011, to April 1, 2023, the department was headed by Doctor of Philology, Professor Umarhodzha Safarov.
Currently, the department consists of 13 staff members, including 2 Doctors of Science (Professors), 8 Candidates of Science, 1 Senior Lecturer, 1 Assistant, and 1 Laboratory Assistant.
